Distinguished and Famous people from The Entrance

๐Ÿ“ท Max Dupain

Max Dupain's photographs give The Entrance a place in a significant body of Australian visual history. His archive includes a 1953 jetty scene and a 1950s photograph of a rocket-shaped playground attraction, subjects drawn from the everyday pleasures of a coastal town. Away from commercial assignments, Dupain often photographed on weekends and holidays, looking closely at light, structures and people. These local pictures belong to that personal work. They preserve a different view from a formal tourist portrait: familiar seaside objects and settings transformed by the photographer's attention to shape and light.

๐Ÿ Arthur Chipperfield

Arthur Chipperfield's family settled at Long Jetty in the 1920s, with his father working as a bootmaker. His local cricket and tennis ability preceded a rapid rise into representative cricket. He played fourteen Tests for Australia between 1934 and 1938, making 99 on his Test debut and later scoring a century in Durban. The Entrance Cricket Club's centenary history records the family and his place in its sporting story. A local commemorative plaque also recalls the batsman whose talent carried him from district grounds to international cricket.

๐ŸŽค Natalie Imbruglia

Natalie Imbruglia grew up at Berkeley Vale and attended Our Lady of the Rosary School at The Entrance before continuing at St Peter's College in Tuggerah. Those school years form a specific local connection for the singer, songwriter and actress. The district historical society records her alongside other Central Coast figures whose later careers reached a much wider audience. Her association with The Entrance belongs to childhood education within that broader coastal upbringing, before television and music became her working life.
